Painting by john William Waterhouse
Let Orpheus drown out their voice
for I am not ready to leap into the wild sea.
Circe told me to beeswax my tired ears
as they pretend to sing just for me.
If I can escape from them
while he plays his pagan lyre,
they might fate me to die,
thinking my fire did expire.
But here I shall be.
Swimming against the tide I am.
It matters not to me the sirens
as long as they remember my name.
for I am not ready to leap into the wild sea.
Circe told me to beeswax my tired ears
as they pretend to sing just for me.
If I can escape from them
while he plays his pagan lyre,
they might fate me to die,
thinking my fire did expire.
But here I shall be.
Swimming against the tide I am.
It matters not to me the sirens
as long as they remember my name.
